Model for teachers’ competence development
As of the spring of 2020, there have been some changes in UPE’s range of courses and working strategy regarding competence development for university teachers. The change aims at achieving more flexibility.
It will allow more flexible competence development based on the needs and current work situation of the individual teacher. Although teachers in higher education share a very similar work situation in general, there are also great variations in terms of the students they teach and in what kind of educational situation they engage with the students.
It will be possible to take smaller courses and start as soon as you begin your employment at the university.
It will be easier to find a mix of courses relevant to the individual’s own needs, and one that fits well into the teachers’ work schedule.
We also hope that this will encourage further competence development throughout the whole career as university teacher. The individual teacher may need an individual mix of courses to fulfil this objective.
An important consequence is that courses aimed at teachers’ competence development do not necessarily have to be offered by UPE. Courses for teachers in higher education held by other universities (online or campus) may be as relevant as courses offered locally by UPE.
