Keynote Speaker: Ulla Manns
Ulla Manns, professor in Gender Studies, Södertörns högskola
Overall, my research interests are directed towards the relationship between science and society, social movements and historiography, historical memory and historical silence. I am interested in women's movements and feminist thinking in different times and in different places (not least in the Nordic countries), social movements and political resistance in general, feminist theory and methodological development and the university as a knowledge institution. My studies of feminism and various kinds of women's movements have mainly concerned Western 19th and early 20th centuries.
In particular I have focused on ideas about freedom, women's emancipation and notions of gender and sexuality, as well as how political ideologies and cultural/religious frameworks work, interact and counteract in thinking about gender, sexuality and political agents. In recent years, my research has increasingly focused on the internal conditions of feminism, its social space of movement, internal norms and feminist hegemony (both in terms of theories, practices and areas of action) at different times. I have also become increasingly interested in the historian as an object of study, what we do when we study and produce knowledge about the past and our role in the creation of a greater cultural memory.
