Hamar day
CRE8®Europe - a digital experiment
The fourth and final competition in the CRE8®Europe project was could not be held as planned, but is still a good proof that it is possible to be "stronger together alone". Due to covid-19 the last and final CRE8®Europe was held digitally.
Seventeen students sat around Europe, with their own computer. They were divided into groups and competed in innovation and creativity. For three hours, they solved a case that was later presented for the client Inlandet University, section of higher education.
Digital dinner
In May 2020, the fourth and final gathering wasÌýto be arranged at Inlandet University Norway, but due to covid-19 pandemic this could not be done.
Therefore, thisÌýbecame a complete, digital editionÌýnow at the end of September. To warm up, the entire CRE8®Europe family met for aÌýdigital dinner and chat the night before. The last time the CRE8®Europe familyÌýmet was in early March 2020 in Spain, and much many hadÌýhappened in all countries since then.Ìý
Workshop day, assignment: Students with black screens during online teaching.
The next day it was game on and at 09.00 everyone was logged in again. The task owner this time was the University's own section for higher education represented by Arna Björg Arnadottir and alumnus Jan Rudi Johansen. The problem the students had to deal with was, appropriately, about challenges related to digital teaching. Jan Rudi described what he describes as "The Black Wall of Death" and challenged the groups to come up with suggestions on how to get students to turn on their cameras and thereby increaseÌýinteraction with lecturers and fellow students. The proposals were many and creative, ranging from Tik Tok challenges, quizzes with a show of hands, separate data packages for those with poor internet connection and today's "outfit".
At least there was no "black death wall" on Zoom that day. The discussions were lively and creativity flourished. User support by Erik Lysbakken provided technical support throughout the day, and with the exception of some unstable network connection with some of the participants, the entire event went smooth. Some stiff necks and dry eyes after a whole day online, but overall participants and organizers were very happy with the implementation. Subsequently, program materials will be prepared that describe the procedure and experiences for use in the implementation of similar events in the future.
