Joint workshop with DRIVE and partner companies in Kista
2023-12-11The project group DRIVE, together with Ericsson AB, invited partner companies to a two-day joint workshop with the aim of showcasing and discussing how to work with mobile services. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ also had the opportunity to describe their research in the field when it was time to meet at Ericsson's premises in Stockholm, Kista.
DRIVE has the overall goal of conducting world-leading research and education in the area of data-driven, latency-sensitive mobile services for future mobile networks, as well as contributing to a sustainable digitization of society. In the project, one of the objectives is to explore how mobile services can be used in the most optimized and energy-efficient way possible.
Networking and knowledge transfer on the agenda
DRIVE is based on close collaboration between ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and seven partner companies: Ericsson, Telia, Icomera, Mullvad, Varnish Software, TietoEvry and Red Hat, all of which contribute complementary expertise and different perspectives. During the workshop, all partner companies had the opportunity to meet and network, both with the researchers at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and with each other. In thematic discussions, participants also had the chance to talk about the challenges and opportunities they see in the future.
– The workshop was very rewarding, and it was interesting to get an insight into the research being conducted in and around edge computing so that we can prepare, test, and apply research at an early stage, said Fredrik Steen, Director of Software Engineering at Varnish Software.
The partner companies shared information about their activities, including Susanne Eskola from Ericsson AB, Niklas Brand from Varnish, who talked about the Sledgehammer project, and Ivan Bretan from Telia Company, who discussed Northstar.
In addition to an overview of the project, status updates and technical presentations were given for the various work packages, which include 5G measurements, ATSSS proxy on SmartNIC, Maybenot: A Framework for Traffic Analysis Defenses, Data-driven network service optimization, and Programmable and secure connectivity.
– A project of this magnitude and societal importance further strengthens our research environment and puts ¹û¶³´«Ã½ on the map, says Professor Anna Brunström, project leader for DRIVE.
Visit to Ericsson Innovation Lab
Ericsson showcased both the Kista Innovation Park, a creative space where students drive their own projects in computer science, with the idea of combining innovations, events, and attractions in a fun mix. The group also visited the Ericsson Innovation Lab, a virtual and physical laboratory environment with a focus on technical solutions.
