The award was established to memorize the work of Christos Nikolaou, the former rector of the University of Crete, Greece and valued contributor to teaching and research in the field of service-oriented computing.
The award is appointed to someone who recently earned their doctoral degree within the fields of Service-Oriented Computing. A committee of internationally renowned professors within the field audited applications and decided which one was appointed the award. According to members of the committee there were strong competitors for the award.
- Obviously, I am flattered to be considered worthy of such an award, says Jörg Lenhard.
The award ceremony was joined with SummerSoc, the 10th Symposium and Summer School On Service-Oriented Computing at University of Crete, Greece 27 June Р1 July. SummerSoc is a summer school on service-oriented computing of which Christos was one of the founders. Except from honor, J̦rg Lenhard had the oppurtunity to present his doctoral thesis at SummerSoc and he also received 2000 EUR, sponsored by Starttech Ventures.

- SummerSoc has really been a wonderful experience. I have met many excellent people, not limited to the committee members. I can only recommend the venue to Ph.D. students in the area of service-oriented computing: You get inspiring talks and tutorials, as well as plenty of opportunities for networking.
