On Thursday 14 September, the subject of Computer Science held an open colloquium where Marco Neri from the telecommunication company Rohde & Schwarz talked about solutions and measurements related to 5G.
Marco Neri has been involved in a joint research collaboration with ¹û¶³´«Ã½ since 2018. The research activity is one of the first collaborations in Europe to measure and analyse 5G mobile network performance. This gives ¹û¶³´«Ã½ a key role in the research context related to 5G empirical analyses and data-driven improvements. The collaboration is also measuring both public and private networks, including the 5G private network at Kau.
- We began our collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz in 2018, while I was working at Sapienza University, and I developed the collaboration. I’m the point of contact for Rohde & Schwarz and help coordinating the measurement and analysis across the team, which includes Sapienza University in Rome and the University of Oslo, says Giuseppe Caso, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at ¹û¶³´«Ã½.
Measuring and analysing 5G networks in Italy and Sweden
During the colloquium, solutions for networks were tested and presented together with an overview of the ongoing collaboration between ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and Rohde & Schwarz.
¹û¶³´«Ã½ is represented in the project by reseachers Giuseppe Caso, Anna Brunström and Mohammad Rajiullah. The project is conducted in collaboration with Sapienza University in Rome and the University of Oslo. Work has included testing, validation and optimisation of NB-IoT and 4G/5G networks in several countries and equipment used in the testing is provided by the Mobile Network Testing Division of Rohde & Schwarz.
Among many benefits, the collaboration is leading to important outcomes for the research community, including papers being published at important venues, and open-source datasets.
