The impact of digitalisation on social relations, organisational context and work environment
2019-12-13The effects of digitalisation result in continuous organisational changes. These changes affect the physical, psychosocial, and organisational work environment. Ann Bergman, Carin HÃ¥kansta and Poja Shams at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Business School, ¹û¶³´«Ã½, will study how digitalisation affects the form and content of different occupations along with social relations and interactions in a new project.
The project Kommunal & Digital (KomDig): The impact of digitalisation on social relations, organisational context and work environment has been granted SEK 4 986 000 from AFA Insurance. The project will investigate if the work and work environment of employees are taken into consideration when municipal procedures are digitalised, how digitalisation influences the form and content of different occupations within the municipalities, and how this in turn affects the organisational and social work environment with a special focus on social relationships and the social context.
– This project is somehow a dream come true for everyone in the research group. We will be able to perform a thorough study of the consequences of digitalisation, both in terms of the organisational context and in terms of the everyday work and work environment of employees, says Ann Bergman, ¹û¶³´«Ã½.
The project is expected to contribute to new knowledge through the development of theories, models, and methods, awareness-raising discussion materials, and concrete work environment instruments.
– The next step is to establish collaborations with municipalites that are interested in participating in the project, Ann Bergman continues.
Digitalisation is expected to be the single greatest factor of change in society over the next ten years, and the ongoing shift towards more and more digital systems and work procedures will result in a fundamental transformation of what work means for many occupations.
