Researchers nominated for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the Swedish Grocery Retailers Gala 2020
2020-08-26Helén Williams and Fredrik Wikström at CTF, Service Research Center at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, conduct research about the role of packaging in reducing food waste. Research that has led to a nomination at “Dagligvarugalan 2020, for their contributions to the grocery retail industry, as one of three finalists in the category "Sustainability Initiative of the Year". The gala is arranged for the twelfth year by the grocery industry magazine Fri Köpenskap.
"Today, food waste accounts for about 6-8 percent of the global climate impact. All measures taken to reduce food waste make a big difference and take us one step closer to reaching the Paris Agreement," says Helén Williams, Associate Professor of Environmental and Energy Systems. "Packaging that protects the food from production until it is on our plates is fundamental, and we hope that our research can make an impact."
The purpose of the Swedish Grocery Retailers Gala is to raise and draw attention to all the heroes in the grocery industry who contribute to keeping Sweden’s food supply running well and the consumers inspired.
"We are very happy over the nomination and that our research is noticed," says Fredrik Wikström, Associate Professor of Environmental and Energy Systems. "This is the first time researchers are nominated for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year, which is extra fun."
The winners will be presented at a digital award ceremony on October 8.
