Spanish 3, Secondary Teacher Education
30.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises four modules:
Module 1a: Practical Placement 1 (7.5 ECTS cr) alt. 1b Practical Placement 2 (7.5 ECTS cr) or 1c: Practical Placement 1 (7.5 ECTS cr) alt. 1d: Practical Placement 2 (7.5 ECTS cr) .
Practical Placement can be carried out in Sweden according to 1a and 1b, or in Sweden and Spain according to 1c and 1d.
Module 1a, alt. 1c Practical Placement 1, 7.5 ECTS cr
Students have the opportunity to participate in everyday activites, apply central regulations and guidelines and local pedagogical planning with consideration of the equality and equity perspectives, and pupils' different needs.
They apply subject-specific teaching theories and transform relevant subject knowledge into teaching and reflect on the relation between theory and practice, and use ICT in their teaching. They also have the opportunity to make observations, discuss and reflect on the profession and professional development, describe special education and student welfare efforts in school, and acquire knowledge of legislation pertaining to confidentiality and obligation to notify irregularities. Alternative 1c has the same content but with a comparative perspective on Sweden and Spain.
Module 1b, alt. 1d Practical Placement 2, 7.5 ECTS cr
Students engage in observations and teaching Spanish as a foreign language using IT. They interpret and implement national curricula and local pedagogical planning and apply pedagogical and subject-specific teaching theories in their plasnning and translate subject knowledge into teaching material with consideration of pupils' different knowledge and interests. Special education perspectives are considered and they practise their communicative skills in cooperation with different staff groups and pupils in school, discuss the profession and their professional development and identify areas to develop in the third practical placement period. Alternative 1d
has the same content but with a comparative perspective on Sweden and Spain.
Module 2: Spanish linguistics, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with Spanish syntax and current language research and includes an introduction to the various linguistic fields with an emphasis on semantics and pragmatics. The history of the Spanish langauge is introduced and grammatical phenomena in contemporary Spanish are analysed from a language history perspective. Methods for teaching grammar and exercises supporting students' linguistic awareness and communicative skills in secondary education are treated.
Module 3: Spanish-speaking literature and literary history, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module integrates literature and an introduction to critical theory. Through close readings of literary texts and applications of critical theory students develop their understanding of the importance and functions of literary texts in terms of historicity and context as well as of reading and intepretation processes. Students also learn how critical theory can be a basis for the teaching of literature and read, analyse and interpret literary works from the 16th, 20th, and 21st centuries adopting different theoretical approaches.
Module 4: The history and culture of Spain, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module describes and identifies relevant historical and cultural phenomena in the history of Spain from the 15th century till today. Students analyse and critically discuss different intercultural perspectives of the relationships between literature, language and culture.
