In this course, students are introduced to fundamental areas of feminist and gender studies, with a focus on feminist movements and theoretical concepts. We also briefly discuss scientific theory from a feminist perspective. Furthermore, we concentrate on the development of gender studies as an emerging field, fundamental concepts, and historical changes in the understanding of gender, class, race, and sexuality in various sociocultural contexts. Additionally, we introduce some of the most important methods for the analysis of gender, norms, and intersectional power dynamics.

Introduction to Gender Studies I-IV consists of four courses that can be taken individually (7.5 ECTS credits each) or combined in sets of two, three, or four courses. Completing all four courses provides students with a solid introduction to the field of gender studies (30 ECTS credits). The course is conducted on-campus in English and primarily targets exchange students, although it is also open to Swedish students. The instruction is in English, but exams and assignments can be written in Swedish.

Each course has its own focus, but all four courses provide an introduction to fundamental concepts and theories within the field of gender studies. The courses also include an introduction to academic writing, oral presentation of ideas and arguments, as well as providing constructive feedback on peers' work.
