Diabetes I
7.5 ECTS creditsInstruction is in the form of introductory lectures and literature studies.
The course includes medical science 7.5 ECTS cr.
- history, definition epidemiology and classification of diabetes
- effects of insulin on the normal metabolism, insulin secretion mechanism and insulin receptor
- the pathogenesis, symptomatology and diagnosis of diabetes type 1 and type 2
- treatment, including self care, of diabetes type 1 and type 2
- hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis
- long-term complications
- metabolic syndrome

At least 60 ECTS cr for undergraduate courses in nursing and health promotion, or equivalent, and upper secondary level Swedish B/3 and English A/6.
