Deformation and Failure
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course is intended to give an understanding of mechanical properties of engineering materials. The focus is on mechanisms of deformation and fracture of metallic, polymer and composite materials, with an emphasize on metallic materials. Fundamentals of fracture mechanics and fatigue are treated. A case-study on failure analysis is included, where the student will do laboratory as well as theoretical work, aiming at acquiring an in-depth understanding of the relation between microstructure, mechanical properties and the practical application. Also, the student will gain knowledge and experience in laboratory methods used in materials engineering work.

Registered for Materials Engineering, 7.5 ECTS credits, Materials in Industrial Applications, 7.5 ECTS credits, Polymer Engineering, 7.5 ECTS credits, Materials Characterisation, 7.5 ECTS credits, and Solid Mechanics, 7.5 ECTS credits, plus upper secondary level English 6, or equivalent
