This course deals with the complex relationships between various societal goals in the areas of the environment, risk and development in local, national and international contexts. Students are introduced to current theories, ideologies and debates on these issues and acquire skills in reflecting on and assessing such problems. Concrete examples are used to clarify the synergies, challenges and conflicts of environmental, risk and development goals in different contexts.

Students also acquire research skills when they involve in defining a research problem and formulating questions, collecting, processing and analysing, and producing an academic text.

Instruction is on campus in the form of lectures, seminars and exercises. The course includes an independent project with an environmental theme. Swedish and English are used in the teaching.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
