Prehospital nursing in theory and practice
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course integrates Nursing (7.5 ECTS cr) and Medical Science (7.5 ECTS cr).
This full-time course is in the form of a 10-week practical placement (VFU), including one week in the anesthesia unit. Attendance is mandatory for the practical placement .
During the practical placement period, students study nursing and medical science in a prehospital context, thus integrating and developing theory and practice. Theories, models, and methods in prehospital nursing are applied, and care techniques, safety efforts, communication, site safety, patient transport and handling medical technical equipment are applied as well as ACPR and child ACPR. Students also study and apply structured assessment, care and treatment as well as prioritising and choosing care level. Documentation, ethics and giving information to patient and next-of-kin are also treated. In the anesthesia unit students practise techniques to facilitate respiration.
During the practical placement period, students develop professional skills and professional conduct in prehospital nursing. Students also reflect upon and demonstrate an understanding of what it means to respect patient dignity, integrity and autonomy and adopt professional conduct characterised by insight, judgement, and competence.
One of the grades Pass (G) or Fail (U) is awarded in the examination of the clinical placement.

Admission to the Specialist Nursing programme with a specialisation in prehospital emergency care, completed courses Prehospital Emergency Assessment and Care (7.5 ECTS credits) and Prehospital Emergency Care (7.5 ECTS credits), plus upper secondary level Swedish 3 or Swedish as a second language 3 and English 6 or A, or equivalent

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
