Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises the following components:
- a field visit to a Swedish municipality office to learn about their climate change adaptation and mitigation work
- basic and evidence-based knowledge of climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction,
- key concepts in the area, such as for instance systemic risk, vulnerability, exposure, hazard, sustainability, adaptation, and sustainability transformation
- the significance of climate change adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable transition
- the basics of climate change adaptation and case studies from around the world
- gradual and abrupt transformation, regime shift, and (positive) social tipping points
- climate solutions in different sectors of society
- political governance of climate change adaptation and mitigation, at different levels
Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars, teaching sessions, and group discussions. Paying a study visit to a Swedish municipality offers the students an opportunity to learn about municipal practices, but the aim is also for the students to use and process this knowledge in various ways throughout the course.
