Political Science III
30.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises three modules:
Module 1 Political Science Theory and Analysis 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with central problems, concepts and theoretical perspectives in political science and enhances a deeper understanding and analysis of politics regarding both theoretical issues and empirical phenomena by outlining different empirical and theoretical perspectives.
Module 2 Political Science Method and Analysis 7.5 ECTS cr 15 ECTS cr
The module provides further knowledge of research and investigative design and method. The different phases of the research process are studied including the choices made in the phases and how to plan an investigation. Both quantitative and qualitative methods for collecting, processing, compiling and analysing data are covered.
Module 3 Independent Research Project
The aim of the module is that students enhance and reinforce their research and investigative skills by carrying out a project presented in the form of an academic essay on a topic that is chosen in consultation with the supervisor.
The independently planned and completed project includes topic formulation and overriding research problem, aim and research questions, analytical specification and the development of the aim through reference to theory, demarcations, material and method, collection, processing and compilation of primary material, analysis of the material in the light of aim, questions and theoretical links and report on the project in writing.
The independent project is assessed on the basis of four main asspects: content, method, presentation and language and style. Details of the main aspects are provided in a special instruction.
Instruction is in the formof lectures, mandatory seminars and individual written works.

Admission requirements
SVGA50 Political Science A 30 ECTS cr and at least 22.5 completed credits of SVGB50 Political Science B 30 ECTS cr including the modules Method 7.5 ECTS cr and Independent research and investigation project 7.5 ECTS cr or equivalent. SGSAM programme students majoring in political science must have completed programme courses totalling 135 ECTS cr.
Selection:
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
