Tell us about your current research
- My research is developing knowledge about digitization practices and its consequences to users, organizations and society as well as the design and visualizations for the development of digital practices, resources and artifacts. It is multifold and interdisciplinary with a central focus on human aspects and emerging technologies; it covers the areas of usable digital privacy, eHealth and wellbeing, Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence approaches, as well as pedagogical developments (i.e., Extended Reality in teaching). Additionally, my research is concerned with ethical considerations and empowering society through inclusive design approaches.
You have recently been promoted to associate professor in information systems
- As the first person to acquire a PhD within the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and usable privacy at Computer Science KAU, I have had the privilege of influencing several individuals to pursue their own PhDs in the area. In my new position, I will continue and further promote research, education, and development in the aforementioned areas.
What are the biggest challenges in information systems?
- I believe that the practical implications of emerging technologies are some of the biggest challenges in this field, particularly the push and pull of innovation and compliance of new technologies (e.g., AI) with ethical and legal standards, as well as their (unknown) impact on society. Furthermore, the alignment of education and current research in Information Systems (IS) is crucial to prepare our students for their practical careers.
AI - is it a curse or a blessing?
- I see AI as a double-edged sword. We need to utilize it to our benefit but at the same time we ought to investigate the challenges and risks to our data and rights as individuals.
