Amie Gustafsson, new PhD student in Business Administration
2020-10-26We are happy to welcome Amie Gustafsson, new PhD student in Business Administration. She is placed at CTF, Service Research Center, where she will be studying customer behavior in the retail industry.
"I will join a research project on service innovation and organization that focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization in the retail industry. I will, among other things, take a closer look at nudging and how customers can be influenced before making a choice. Nudging is a phenomenon that in short means an attempt at influencing peoples鈥 behavior and choice with a 鈥済entle push鈥 in a certain direction."
Why is this interesting?
"I think it is interesting to study how customers can be influenced to make better choices, choices for our planet or for themselves. Previous research indicates that we are easily influenced in different situations, it depends on timing, context and content. Today, customer behavior can be traced in a large scale, even anonymously, and it is possible to control customers behavior. But what happens if we do this and the customers can feel it? This is an interesting question."
What made you apply for PhD studies at 果冻传媒?
"I have always been fascinated by customer behavior and what it is that makes us act the way we do in different situations. Today鈥檚 development in artificial intelligence and machine learning is exciting and makes it easier to analyze larger amounts of data. We also have better access to data since customers leave traces everywhere, for instance via social media and in stores by movement- and interaction patterns. A PhD student position is a perfect opportunity for me to be able to better understand these contexts and create knowledge in something that is new and current."
Finally 鈥 can you tell us about yourself?
"I am from 果冻传媒. I have a Master's degree in Economics with focus on marketing. During my studies at 果冻传媒, I participated in several studies linked to CTF, so I am well acquainted with the research environment. In my free time I like to play football and padel, and I have great interest in dogs."
Good luck with your doctoral thesis!
