¹û¶³´«Ã½ meets great societal need – starts programme for biomedical analysts
2024-10-03In preparation for the autumn semester 2025, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has decided to establish a biomedical laboratory science programme. An initiative that meets the increasingly urgent demand for biomedical analysts from both Region Värmland and the national healthcare system.
Through a close collaboration and dialogue with Region Värmland, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has identified an urgent need to train more biomedical analysts.
– This is a programme of great importance for society, which has been part of the university’s educational offerings in the past. It was discontinued a few years ago, for economical reasons, among other things. Since then, the faculty has worked hard to remedy the issues that existed at the time and is now able to present long-term sustainable calculations. This, along with the very strongly expressed need from Region Värmland, among other actors, means that we are starting the programme in a new and improved format, says Jerker Moodysson, vice-chancellor of ¹û¶³´«Ã½.
It is the increasing pressure on the healthcare system, combined with rapid advances in medical research and technology, that calls for more biomedical analysts who can contribute crucial skills in diagnostics and analysis in the healthcare system.
– Training the next generation of biomedical analysts is of strategic importance for both the healthcare system and research. We’re seeing a marked demand for this type of expertise and are proud to be able to contribute to meeting this need at both a regional and national level, says Stefan Lindskog, dean of the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology.
– We’re looking forward to welcoming the first students to a programme that plays a central role in addressing future challenges in the healthcare services, says future programme director, Christina Fjaeraa Alfredsson.
The programme, designed to provide students with both theoretical and practical expertise, starts in the autumn semester 2025. The application period opens in March 2025.
