G2 – Music theory
The G2-test will take place on campus at Ingesund School of Music 29-30 april 2024. The test consists of three parts: music theory, music and notation, and harmony. Applicants take all three parts of the test on the same occasion.
PERFORMANCE
PART 1, MUSIC THEORY:
The purpose of this component is to assess your knowledge of music theory. In this subtest, you will demonstrate your knowledge of common concepts and ways to term and notate, for example, octave positions, intervals, chords, keys, time signature, and time value of notes and rests. Â

PART 2, MUSIC AND NOTATION:Â
This part of the exam is designed to assess your ability to identify music by ear in relation to reading music. In the first section, you will listen to musical examples with vocals, where you are to notate melodies.
In the second part of the exam, you will listen to a piece of music performed with instruments, and based on various answer options, you should choose the melodies, rhythms, and chords that you believe correspond to what you hear.Â

PART 3, HARMONY:
This component includes harmonic analysis and chord background.
You will receive the start of a four-part melody that you will analyse using chord indications, as well as writing and completing a chord progression that follows the given chord structure.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
For a satisfactory result, you should be able to:
- demonstrate basic knowledge of music theory
- demonstrate basic aural skills
- demonstrate basic skills in harmony
The total result of the G2-tests is assessed as Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory.
