The proposed research is directed toward examining the role of literary narratives in imagining and building subaltern identities in the context of current debates around decolonization. I am particularly interested in studying the manner by which indigenous experiences, made invisible in the hegemonic cultural matrix, are rendered visible through the works of brazilian creators. By focusing on selected writings by contemporary indigenous authors, the research seeks to address questions of visibility and representation in ways that might indicate how Brazil鈥檚 indigenous literature could help create sites of resistance, counter-memory and re-existence and unwork colonial legacies.
