Open access deals with publishers
ý Library has agreements with a number of scientific publishers where the fees for publishing open access are either prepaid or discounted. The library is a member of the Swedish Bibsam consortium at the Royal library, who negotiates these agreements on a national level.
If you are an author/researcher affiliated to ý, you can publish open access under the terms of these agreements. Please note that you need to be the submitting corresponding author of the article, and use your KAU email-address in correspondence with the journal.
There are two types of agreements:
• Open access publishing is free of charge for you, as the library has prepaid it. This type of agreement is the most common one.
• When publishing open access, you will receive a discount on the publication fee.
What terms apply to my journal?
To find out what terms apply for a specific journal we can recommend using the search tool Scifree. This service lets you search for your favorite journals and it provides instant information on the financial support available for each journal. Via Scifree you can also get more information on the specifics of the agreement the journal is included in.
All agreements available for KaU researchers are also listed below.
Publishing models in the agreements
The journals listed in the agreements above can be published under two different models, as fully open access journals or as hybrid journals.
Publications in fully open access journals
A fully open access journal (also called “gold open access journal” or “pure open access journal”) is a journal where all articles are open access immediately on publication.
Depending on the agreement, article processing charges for fully open access journals can be either pre-paid in full by the library, discounted or not subsidised at all.
Publications in hybrid journals
A hybrid journal is a subscription-based journal where individual articles can be open access if an article processing charge is paid for that article. All other articles in the journal will remain locked behind a paywall, hence they will not be retrievable for anyone lacking university library access.
Depending on the agreement, article processing charges for hybrid journals can be either pre-paid in full by the library, discounted or not subsidised at all.
