Adding books
When you download an epub book an .acsm file will be created. Often the file will open up automatically in Adobe Digital Editions but it can also be saved and opened later.
To open a saved file start the program and go to "File" ,"Add to library".
Navigate to the map for downloaded files on your computer and mark the file you wish to add.
Another option is to right-click on the file you want to open and choose "Open with".
If you get the error message Adobe Reader could not open (title of e-book) acsm because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged? it might be that the file type is associated with another program. To change this setting go to Start/Control panel/Programs/Default programs/Associate a filetype...
Using books
In Adobe Digital Editons you can now read the book, save bookmarks and add notes. You can also see the remaining borrowing time.
Use right click听 - item info to see information about printing and copying permissions. You can also return the book using "Return item" or remove it from your program by using "Remove from library"
If you have many books downloaded it can be useful to organize them in different bookshelves. New bookshelves are created by using the plus sign besides "Bookshelves".
From version 4.5 of ADE there is also an app available for Adobe Digital Editions. In the app settings it is possible to set that downloaded books should also be available in the app. You must use the same听 Adobe ID for this to work.

Mobile apps
For reading e-books on a mobile device we download an app from iTunes or Google Play which support DRM-protected ebooks (Apple: Bluefire Reader/PocketBook Reader/Bookari) Android: Aldiko/Bluefire Reader/PocketBook Reader) These apps supports e-books in both pdf and epub format and also supports the use of DRM protected library books which not all e-book reader apps do.听 After downloading the app you need to go to "Settings" and add your Adobe ID.
The simplest way is to download books from the browser on your device. The you can choose to open the book directly in the app.
To add books already downloaded on your computer you can often connect your device to the computer and drag and drop files. If you have an iPhone or iPad you must transfer the file using iTunes or Dropbox. It is also possible to send the file as an e-mail attachment to an e-mail adress you can open on your device.
For Itunes: Connect your device to the computer and open iTunes. Under "devices" choose your phone and then "Apps", "File transfer" and "Bluefire Reader."
