Award-winning conference paper on collaborative robotics
2024-09-12At an international conference in Djerba, Tunisia, our visiting PhD student José Pablo De la Rosa Gutiérrez won an award for his presentation on robotics programming.
– Collaborative robots can be used in many ways, says Jorge Solis, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. Modern robotics, where collaboration between man and machine is governed through programming and gesture recognition, can be used in healthcare as well as in the manufacturing industries. The conference paper is about a programming method developed for non-programmers, meaning it aims to be user-friendly.
International collaboration
The visiting PhD student José Pablo De la Rosa Gutiérrez is based at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, where they have developed a method for using robotics to assist physiotherapists in their work with patients requiring rehabilitation. This programming method was originally developed in collaboration with researchers at ý for use primarily in the manufacturing industries.
– In collaboration with international actors such as Ritsumeikan University in Japan and the University of Southern Denmark, we will continue to both receive visiting scholars while also providing our PhD students and researchers the opportunity to go on visits abroad. This exchange is very beneficial and provides broader perspectives as well as opportunities for development. Our international collaboration efforts are in a very interesting development phase at the moment. We have expanded our collaboration efforts related to the ongoing project Sustainable Human-Robot Synergy in Extended Reality by Foundation Model Integration for Super Smart Society 5.0, in part funded by International Collaborative Research Program, Ritsumeikan University. The project partners are Ritsumeikan University, ý, the University of Southern Denmark and UCLouvain in Belgium.
The conference paper is titled “An Empirical Study on Behavior-Driven Development Scenarios to Support End-user Programming of Collaborative Robots” and was presented at The International Symposium on Robotics & Mechatronics on the island of Djerba, Tunisia.
