Johan Sterte (57) has extensive experience as vice-chancellor. He was the vice-chancellor of Växjö University from 2009 to 2009, and since 2009 he has been vice-chancellor of Luleå Luleå University of Technology. Johan Sterte is an engineer and was appointed professor of chemical technology in 1994.

He grew up in Älmhult in Småland, has a Master of Science in Engineering from Chalmers, and in 1987 completed his doctorate in Engineering Chemistry, also at Chalmers. In 1992 he became associate professor at Chalmers.

Johan Sterte has been a research assistant in Salt Lake City, USA, for a few years in the 1980s, and has also been technical manager at a company in Gothenburg, but has otherwise remained in academia. He has held a professorship in Luleå since 1994.

“I enjoy being vice-chancellor, it is one of the most varied jobs around,” says Johan Sterte.
“Leading a university means that you contribute to deciding the direction of development regionally, nationally and internationally. Getting to do this, and marketing higher education as a vice-chancellor, also gives one the opportunity to influence the sector politically.”
