Prestigious prize awarded to Professor Lars Järnström

The world's most prestigious prize in the field of paper coating was this year awarded to Lars Järnström, professor in paper coating technology at ý. The prize is the TAPPI Coating & Graphic Arts Division Technical Award and includes the Charles W. Engelhard Prize. The prize was awarded during the TAPPI PaperCon Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA on April 16th 2018. This conference is probably the most important conference worldwide in the field of paper science and technology. This year, the conference attracted ca. 1,910 registered attendees.
Each year’s winner is selected by the TAPPI Coating & Graphic Arts Awards Committee that makes the selection based on the following criteria: “The Division Technical Award is intended to recognize outstanding accomplishments or contributions, which have advanced the industry's technology in the awarding division's field of interest.”
Research area addressing environmentally friendly coatings on cellulose-fibre based packaging materials
Lars Järnström has been full professor at ý in Paper Coating Technology since 1999. His main research area is addressed to environmentally friendly coatings on cellulose-fibre based packaging materials in order to reduce carbon footprint, to reduce plastic waste, to reduce food waste and to promote lean production processes. He is Programme Director of the multidisciplinary Industrial graduate school VIPP (Value Created in Fibre-Based Processes and Products) at ý.
