Quality enhancing efforts continue in the budget for 2025
2024-12-02The university board approved the budget for 2025 at the board meeting 27 November. The forward-looking investments in Eunice, doctoral students and associate senior lecturers, which are financed through the university’s agency capital, will continue. The rest of the budget is planned to be balanced.
The university’s finances are affected by various factors in society, the external environment and sometimes also by challenges within the organisation. In terms of electricity prices, inflation and the consumer price index, the situation is somewhat less concerning than a year ago. At the same time, the government’s budget proposal earlier this autumn did not include any new, major investments in the higher education sector.
In real terms, the budget of ¹û¶³´«Ã½ for 2025 is decreasing. This is primarily due to the fact that the final, temporary COVID-19 initiatives will conclude in the coming year and in 2026.
The results of operations for 2025 is budgeted at -SEK 9.1 million. This is a planned deficit to finance the strategic investments.
SEK 2.5 million is allocated for Eunice*, SEK 7.5 million for the strategic doctoral student initiative, SEK 13.1 million for associate senior lecturers and SEK 6 million for new computers and phones. Funds are taken from the university’s agency capital and do not affect regular operations.
At the central level, the university is well-positioned to adjust operations in response to the economic situation. However, a decreasing budget means that the organisation must make priorities, both in terms of investments and cost reductions.
– Given the developments in society and the, in many respects, strained economy, I’m very pleased that we’re able to continue with forward-looking investments, while maintaining a balanced budget for our regular operations, says Jerker Moodysson, Vice-Chancellor at ¹û¶³´«Ã½.
The budget for 2025 has been planned and approved independently of the research and innovation bill expected this autumn. This is because information about any potential additional funds, as a result of the bill, will be announced first in the government’s spring amendment budget next year.
