Season’s Greetings from the Director
2024-12-13As the festive season approaches, and with it the opportunity for some rest, we are preparing to close the book on CTF’s 38th year and look forward to new and exciting opportunities in research and education.
Reflecting on the past year, I feel pride in several significant achievements and moments of excitement. Most importantly, I am grateful for everyone’s contributions in doing research that is externally funded and oriented. What stands out most is the many discussions we’ve had about the role of research in fostering positive societal development.
At present, three wars are raging close to us. The United States will soon have a president who does not favor collaboration or free trade. While interest rates are falling, the economic downturn remains pronounced. In light of this, the role of research becomes even more vital – to illuminate the darkness and instill hope.
I recently read a psychological research report about the concept of hope. According to the researchers, hope is more than mere wishful thinking; it is the ability to envision pathways forward where one can contribute to meaningful goals.
Similarly, I believe that CTF’s research has a crucial role to play in creating hope. Our vision is to contribute to a better world. We achieve this by helping organizations develop new and improved offerings that enhance people’s value creation, strengthen organizational competitiveness, and drive societal progress – with a focus on better health, sustainability, and other meaningful experiences.
Historically, research has played an essential role in creating hope and guiding societies through difficult times, such as wars and global crises. Science carries a positive narrative that inspires people to believe in the possibility of a better world. During the pandemic, we demonstrated our resilience – the ability to recover quickly and continue advancing despite adversity. This was made possible, in large part, thanks to the contributions of research.
Today, CTF comprises nearly 80 people working in research and education across seven scientific disciplines. We are also proud to have five international guest professors who bring specialized expertise and experience, making our research even more cutting-edge and globally relevant. Our research serves as a catalyst for change and inspiration. By leading the development of knowledge, we build resilience and offer visions for a better future – helping people identify pathways forward and creating hope for a more positive societal development.
With these reflections, I want to thank my colleagues as well as our partners for joint efforts and collaboration throughout the year – together, we make a difference! I look forward to continuing our work together, contributing to positive societal development as we embark on CTF’s 39th year.
Season’s greetings and best wishes for the new year!
