The book “Skogen som resurs i en gränsregion” (the forest as a resource in a border region) is an anthology with contributions from Swedish and Norwegian partners in the project Ingoskog. It includes business models for a sustainable tourism industry, value-creating nature tourism, methods to illustrate the diverse value of the forest and how to find a balance between economic interests and ecological sustainability.
The anthology, which will be presented at the final conference of the project on 19 August, gathers experiences and knowledge from the project.
“Today’s global ecological and societal challenges require a green transition to a fossil-free circular society. The forest is an enormous resource in this transition, at the same time as the change includes increased competition for forest biomass. The forest has many different areas of use: in addition to timber, paper and other biomass products, it also covers tourism, outdoor life, agroforestry and recreation. The forest also needs to be preserved, not least to protect biodiversity. The forest is a diverse resource! There are conflicting interests, at the same time as some interests can coexist in the forest. This was the starting point for the project “Innovation for a green transition of the forest as a resource”, says project managers Margareta Dahlström, ý, and Marius Kjønnsberg, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, in the preface of the book.
