Joanne Kuai
Research
I am a third-year doctoral student at the Department of Geography, Media and Communication at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, Sweden. My proposed thesis project is on Artificial Intelligence in Chinese Newsrooms. My research interests centre around data and AI for media, computational journalism, and the social implications of automation and algorithms. My supervisors are , , and John Lynch. Prior to my academic career, I worked as a reporter, editor and news anchor in China.

I am a member of NODE, the Ander Center for Research on News and Opinion in the Digital Era and the Geomedia research group at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ (KAU), Sweden; I am the Chair of the board of the Graduate Student Association (GSA/Doktorandsektionen) at KAU; I am a recipient of the NIAS SUPRA Nordic Scholarship and an affiliated PhD Student at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies (); I was invited to be an instructor for hosted by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE); I was a fellow in the Ethics of Digitalisation research project at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (); I acted as the PhD representative in the Expert Panel for Mid Sweden University Assessment of Research; and I am a regular to the Nordic Asia Podcast at the New Books Network.
