Research
My research interest is in the use of digital technologies in the teaching and learning of mathematics, with a particular focus on task design, both at the upper school level and tertiary level.
In an ongoing project within a first-year mathematics calculus course for engineering students, the focus is on digital solutions in the form of automatic assessment systems, in combination with dynamic mathematics software. The purpose of the project is to investigate how this type of system can be used to generate formative feedback that supports students' learning in mathematics. The research focuses on the design of learning environments in which students' metacognitive processes such as self-regulation and self-reflection are developed. An important part is the design of individualized tasks as well as elaborated feedback.
