Aim: The companies Sogeti Sverige AB and Uddeholm AB propose to mathematicians two scientific challenges, i.e. problems handling relevant unsolved current technological or societal issues in search for a suitable solution. Both the Sogeti problem and the Uddeholm problem will be announced on the event webpage hosted by the Mathematics and Computer Science Department of Karstad University (KAU).
Approach: During the MIMM day, two teams will be formed to attack the industrial problems. Each team will be composed of mathematicians with very different levels of seniority, i.e. senior researchers (1), doctoral students (1-3), university students (2-3) and upper secondary students (2-3). The problem owners from each of the companies will also join the teams. The working language will be English.
Senior researchers, doctoral and university students enrolled in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at KAU have priority in registering to the event. However, the participation is open to all scientists or university students from KAU or from elsewhere in Sweden. Ìý
If you want to join us, contact asap Prof. dr. habil. Adrian Muntean Ìý(adrian.muntean@kau.se).
Upper secondary students studying science or technical programs, or another comparable direction in a Swedish school, are welcome to join. Participants must be creative and show interest in mathematics.
If you want to join us, then write a brief motivation letter and explain why you want to take part in the MIMM day. A short recommendation letter from a mentor or a teacher in mathematics, physics or technics is appreciated.
Send in your application at latest the 20th of October to Elisabet Mellroth (elisabet.mellroth@kau.se).
Costs: There is no cost to participate in the MIMM day. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ invites you for the fika, lunch and dinner. If your participation involves travel and accommodation costs, then these would need to be covered by yourself.Ìý If this cost hinders your participation, contact Elisabet Mellroth.
Time: The MIMM day starts off at 9:00 with the presentation of the problems and ends with the presentation of the tentative solutions and then with dinner at ca. 17h30.
