MULTI-BARR: Multilayer Barrier Coatings Technology for Fibre-based Packaging
Using multiscale modeling, asymptotic analysis and simulation tools, the mathematical contribution to the Synergy project aims at combining experimental studies on multilayer barrier coatings, from laboratory coating to pilot coating, with mathematical modelling of oxygen mass transport through the layers.
Main tasks include the development, simulation and validation against experiments of single-scale and multiple-scale mathematical models for oxygen mass transport through multilayered coatings. One concrete objective is to understand the role of varying pigment types and/or of defects on the material permeability.
The project is funded by the Knowledge Foundation and will run from October 1st, 2018 to September 30, 2022.
