Qualitative Research Methods in Working Life Science
Course content and form
The course will provide students with an in-depth knowledge of qualitative analysis, providing them with the ability to make informed decisions about the choice and application of qualitative analysis techniques. The course will prepare students for working with qualitative data: students will develop their understanding of different approaches to coding qualitative data, how to develop theory from qualitative data and gain insight into writing up the results of analysis. The course is presented on a bloc teaching basis.
Course goals
After completing the course the doctoral student should be able to:
- Identify different types of qualitative data and approaches to analysis
- Make informed decisions about analysis techniques for qualitative data
- Demonstrate a knowledge of qualitative data coding
Prerequisites
None, although as the course focusses more on analysis than data collection previous research methods training would be an advantage.
Examination
The course is examined by the completion of a qualitative data coding exercise and a written assignment relating to the analysis of qualitative data within their own study.
