By reading and reviewing texts written by other doctoral students and by discussing their own texts, the course aims to develop the ability of participants to contextualise their own research in a broader sense, both academically and societally.

Course goals
Upon completion of the course, doctoral students should demonstrate

• that they can support the learning of others,
• knowledge of the opportunities and limitations of literary and language studies, and
• the ability to place their own research in a societal context.

Prerequisites
Admission to a doctoral programme.

Examination
Outcomes 1–2 are assessed through the presentation of own texts and the critical review of texts written by others in PhD seminars.
Outcome 3 is assessed through an oral presentation, preferably in held English during the final year of the doctoral programme, in which doctoral students contextualise their research from a societal perspective.
