GIS - Introduction
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course is primarily designed for students needing to learn different ways of using GIS technology and to students seeking a general understanding of GIS in order to collaborate with experts in the field.
The course covers central concepts and definitions. Students are given a number of reading assignments, which are supplemented with a practical introduction to commonly used GIS software including introductory exercises as well as more advanced exercises designed to help students learn a particular software programme, deepen their knowledge, and apply their knowledge in practice. Students are also introduced to ongoing processes of development and standardisation in the field. Finally, students undertake a project in which they apply the theoretical knowledge acquired.
