Cognitive neuropsychology and social psychology, prevention and health

Module 1 Cognitive Neuro and Biological Psychology II, 18 ECTS cr
The aim of the module is to enhance students' knowledge in the field of neuropsychology regarding normal and impaired function in the areas of perception, memory, motor ability, language, emotion and personality. Neurologic, psychiatric and geriatric conditions are presented as well as cognitive rehabilitation. Also, neuropsychological assessment is introduced and covers neuropsychological test-administration, interpretation and reporting of data. Knowledge of how different factors at the levels of the individual, social environment and society can affect such investigation is also treated.
Module 2 Prevention and Health I, Children and Youth, 4 ECTS cr
Preventive and promotive health efforts are presented and social determination factors and risk and health factors are described. Programme for preventing mental illness among children and youth are described. The meaning of the evidence-based concept in prevention programmes and tools to assess and evaluate the strength of prevention programmes are introduced. Methods to measure young people's health and evaluate programmes are described.
Module 3 Sociology and Social Psychology, 4 ECTS cr
The course presents various ways to understand human interaction and social structures where emotions, gender, social class, and ethnicity are central concepts and categories.
Module 4 Theory of Science and Methods III, 2 ECTS cr
The module is a continuation of the Theory of Science and Methods II, 4 ECTS cr. For scientific as well as clinical work oral and written communication is of central importance both to the research community and to the general public. Communicating science with an emphasis on strategies to achieve successful communication is treated.
Module 5 Self-Reflection, Communication and Professional Skills, 2 ECTS cr
Themes such as our own identity as part of a majority or minority and what it means to encounter persons who have a different gender, age, ethnic or other belonging are discussed. Persons with specific experiences of how age, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation, for instance, affect how we are perceived by others partake in the discussions.
