Students deepen their understanding of and ability to analyse the individual as a part of society through a focus on late modernity and social change. The course deals with social processes and categorisation, especially in terms of gender, ethnicity, age and any other grounds for discrimination. Globalisation and its manifestations at a local level are treated. The course also provides some glimpses of late modernity sociological discussions on individualisation and social change.

Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars and group discussions.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
