COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN OPTIMIZATION
Computational design optimization is a research area in which simulations are combined with computational optimization algorithms to find the best design for different components.听
Computer simulations are now an important cost- and time-effective complement to traditional prototype-based product development. Thus, computational design optimization is a natural part of the digitalization of the manufacturing industry. Modern production techniques, such as 3D printing, enable the cost-effective manufacturing of mechanical components. To take full advantage of these production techniques, we develop new design optimization tools that efficiently solve large-scale problems.听
The computational design optimization group works on various topics to expand the theoretical foundation and the applicability area of computational design optimization methods. We aim to establish new ways to deal with and solve selected applied problems.
Currently, we are focusing on the following areas:
- Design optimization for boundary-dominated problems---including, for example, coated structures and problems with boundary load or losses.
- Extending the theory for morphological operators and developing approximate morphological operators.
- Design optimization for components and systems that manipulate and control acoustic and electromagnetic wave propagation.
