Media and Communication Studies
It is sometimes said that we live in a media society. What does that really mean? What role is played by the media in our lives? Why does media content look the way it does? How do we use the media – in our private lives and at work? And how do the media actually influence our view of the world and of ourselves? These are some of the questions that we try to answer in Media and Communication Studies. It is a multifaceted subject with close connections to a number of other subjects, such as Sociology, Political Science, Literary Studies, Film, Art, and History of Ideas.
The basis of our education is theoretical and closely related to research conducted in the subject of Media and Communication Studies. In addition to our theoretical courses, however, we also offer a number of elective courses in Media Production as well as an internship course which gives our students valuable experiences of Media and Communication as a professional field. Thanks to various arrangements with a number of universities outside Sweden, we can also offer our students good opportunities to study abroad.
We want to convey both national and international perspectives to our students through our programme of study. One of our main goals is to promote critical and analytical thinking. We think that our students will acquire a dependable education while studying with us, and that it will help them apply for qualified positions in the domains of information, communication, or education, nationally or internationally.
