Current research projects:
Nordic basic schools as past, present and future sites for solving the challenges of making diverse inclusive knowledge-based societies.ÌýWhat is the role of Nordic basic schools as past, present and future sites for solving the challenges of making diverse inclusive knowledge-based societies? This project is interested in the challenges that material and digital re-configurations of sociality bring to NordicÌýeducation. Through multidisciplinary studies of four different Nordic schools, we explore inclusion and exclusion over a time-span of 50 years. Funded through the programme Future Challenges in the NordicsÌý.
EQUITÉ. Equal access to knowledge in technology rich education.ÌýExploratory workshop that adresses questions about the role of digital technology in classrooms in relation to equity and variation between students. The workshop is a collaboration between researchers from ¹û¶³´«Ã½, University of Helsinki, University College Copenhagen and Högskolan Kristianstad. (Funded by the Swedish Research Council, VR/UVK, 2023-03870)
Equality and literacy. Terms for participation in classroom literacy practices in digital learning environments . The aim is to deepen knowldge about terms for literacy in digital learning environments for students in need of support for reading and writing. The study is a collaboration between researchers and special education teachers with a participatory methodology.Ìý
On various social media teachers produce and share material with students, whom they don’t meet regularly in class. This form of teaching challenges a former view of the didactical contract. Based on the concept of e-professionalism, the aim of the project is to deepen the knowledge about this newÌýprofessional practice and its relevance for perceptions of a teacher as a profession including professional ethics. The project highlights three themes: the role of teachers on social media, the role of teachers as representatives of a profession and the role of teachers as school developers and edu-influencers. (Swedish Research Council 2021-03948)
Teaching with Learning Management Systems. Making new learning spaces in the digitalized classroom visible.ÌýThis project focuses on the increasingly prevalent use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in Swedish upperÌýsecondary schools. We focus on LMS systems that are used directly for teaching purposes and study how use ofÌýLMS changes the classroom as a space for learning. The purpose is to gain knowledge about how use of LMS is ofÌýimportance for how teaching and learning are construed in classroom interaction. I am project leader, in the project group alsoÌýChristina Olin-Scheller, Yvonne Liljekvist, Johan Samuelsson och Claes Hallqvist. Projetet funded by the Swedish Research CouncilÌý(UVK 2019/03760).Ìý

Previous research projects
Challenges in the Connected Classroom. Spaces for Learning in a digitalized school. ÌýWe follow two lower secondary classrooms in different subjects in a digitala rich school. The overarching purpose is to, from video data, develop models together with teachers and students about how to understand new challenges in the connected classroom and what this means for quality of teaching and learning. Project leader, together with Christina Olin-Scheller, Annelie Johansson och Eva Tarander. Project funded by ULF (Utveckling, lärande, forskning).
Connected Classroom Nordic. PI for the project that is one of the major substudies within the Nordic excellence centre QUINT (Quality in Nordic Teaching). The project is a collaboration between researchers in the five Nordic countries where the conduct parallel video studies of teaching in digitally rich classrooms (see also Challenges in the connected classroom above). The aim is to explore what constitutes quality in teaching in relation to digitalisation of education, through bringing together researchers, professional teachers and students in collaborative video based, longitudinal investigations of contemporary teaching in digitally rich classrooms in the Nordic countries.
Linking Instruction and Student Achievement. A video-based study of the relationship between instruction and learning in mathematics and reading.ÌýThe purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of different instructional strategies on student learning in secondary school. Together with Michael Tengberg, Jorryt van Bommel and Michael Walkert. Funded by the Swedish Research Council (UVK 2017/03544).Ìý
Connected classrooms. New literacy practices among upper secondary school students in the smartphone era.ÌýThe purpose is to yield knowledge about how and for what purposes upper secondary students use smartphones at school and to develop research methods for studying digital literacy practices in classroom settings. Together with Christina Olin-Scheller, funded by the Swedish Research Council(UVK 2015/01044). /csl/forskning/var-forskning/forskningsprojekt/uppkopplade-klassrum
