Swedish Language
Are you looking to improve your public speaking or writing skills? Are you interested in solving linguistic problems or exploring the development and diversity of the Swedish language? Do you want to know more about learning Swedish as a second language? We offer a world of expression, learning and linguistic diversity for you to explore!
Swedish is the official language of Sweden and by studying the Swedish language here at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ you will gain an understanding of the role, use and historical development of the language. Swedish language studies will provide you with useful knowledge that can be applied in many different professional roles and you will also acquire knowledge to teach Swedish and Swedish as a second language.
Studying Swedish at university differs from studying Swedish at upper secondary school. At university level, you explore Swedish as a written and spoken language through the ages, from runes to the language we use in today’s digital environment. You will specialise in issues on how the language is structured, how we learn the language and how it is used in different contexts.
COURSES IN SWEDISH LANGUAGE AND SWEDISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Our courses in the Swedish language and Swedish as a second language are a great option if you wish to learn more about the structure, development and use of the Swedish language. Improving your language skills is also useful if you want to develop your abilities as a public speaker or your writing skills.
Courses in Swedish as a second language will provide you with knowledge about the prerequisites for second language development and an understanding of the connections between multilingualism and learning, as well as insights into what distinguishes an intercultural approach in school. The courses are primarily aimed at students who are interested in education for multilingual pupils in pre-school, primary and secondary school, as well as adult education – skills and expertise that are in great demand today.
SWEDISH AS PART OF TEACHER EDUCATION
¹û¶³´«Ã½ offers on-campus and distance teacher education programmes for aspiring teachers in early years education, primary education and secondary education (lower and upper). The subject of Swedish is one of the subjects included in the teacher education programmes, where courses in Swedish combine studies in the Swedish language and comparative literature. You can also take freestanding courses in Swedish to qualify as a Swedish teacher. More information can be found under Teacher Education and you can also contact the student counsellor if you want to find out more about ways in which freestanding courses can be combined to achieve subject teacher qualifications.
The programme for upper secondary school teachers includes two subjects; one main subject comprising 120 credits, in combination with a second subject comprising 90 credits.
