Carl-Gustaf Bornehag is Professor and head of Public Health Sciences at department of health at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, Sweden, and adjunct professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA. His research focus is on early life exposure for environmental factors such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (both as single compounds and mixtures) and maternal diet/nutrition in interaction with genes for children´s health and development. He is principal investigator of two major epidemiological studies in Sweden, the Dampness in Buildings and Health (DBH) study (following more than 10,000 children from childhood up in adulthood) and the SELMA study (following more than 2,000 mother-child pairs from early pregnancy, over birth and up in school age). Bornehag is deeply involved in the work of building international networks in order to integrate epidemiological studies with experimental models in cells and animals in order to learn more about biological mechanisms (e.g., epigenetics, thyroidea, etc.) that may be in action, and by the use of such integration improve risk assessment of endocrine disrupting chemicals. Research groups from more than 20 countries in Europe, USA, Asia, and Australia are currently involved in such collaborations working in five major EU project (EDC-MixRisk, ENDpoiNTs, ATHENA, RE-MEND, and INQUIRE), two US NIH projects (PRIME, A-PED) and three national projects, (RACH-Mix, Epi-Clock, and Vaccin) funded by Formas, Swedish Research Council, and Forte respectively.
