Geomatics
Are you interested in maps; collection and analysis of geographical information; geodetic measurement technology; 3D visualization of landscapes and cities as well as the environment; working with satellite images and UAV remotely sensed data; image interpretation and analysis; machine learning techniques and analyses that can support different dimensions of sustainable development from a geographical perspective?
Geomatics is an umbrella term for disciplines and technology for collection, storage, analysis and visualization of geographical data. Geomatics includes amongst others cartography, map production, geodesy, geodata collection, remote sensing, spatial analysis and geographical information systems.

Education
Geomatics offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Surveying Technology and Geographical IT, comprising basic courses in geodesy, mathematics, programming, database technology, cartography, GIS, remote sensing and real estate law. Specialised courses are offered in GIS analysis, GPS measuring techniques, remote sensing, construction surveying, software development and scientific methods. The programme includes a practical component where students complete a practical placement – perhaps leading to contact with a future employer. The programme concludes with a larger independent degree project with a specialisation of your choice.
We also offer a Bachelor’s programme in Land Surveying and Cartography, specialising in cartographic and measurement techniques. This programme is similar to the engineering programme, but includes less mathematics and therefore has lower entry requirements. Instead of geographic analyses, the programme focuses on measurement, mapping and visualisation, project management and business administration. Students are given skills that are in demand at consulting and construction companies. This programme also includes a practical component and concludes with a degree project.
Research
Research at Geomatics is focused on the development of novel technical methods and discovery of new knowledge and insights in the fields of geodesy, satellite and UAV remote sensing, spatial analyses/space syntax, risk and catastrophe modelling, earth observation, sustainability and archaeology.
Recently finished and ongoing research projects are predominately in-house collaborative efforts with the Centre for Societal Risk Research (CSR), Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation (CRS), Risk- and Environmental Studies and Biology. Together with external international and national research partners, i.e. other universities, authorities and industry, interdisciplinary research efforts target sustainable development, climate adaptation, risk analyses and risk reduction, traffic safety, mapping and monitoring of the environment, ecosystem services and urbanization.
