Research on teachers' expectations of their principal
There are many ways to understand principals' way of practicing school leadership. In this survey study, we explore how principals' actions are related with teachers' expectations of the principal assignment. How this social role is practised depends on the expectations placed on the position of the role in the social system in which it is included, but also on the expectations of the function to be fulfilled. How the principal’s role is shaped in practice also depends on how the person who fulfils the role perceives and understands the expectations placed on him/her. In order to describe the expectations that principals face, we have drawn up a survey consisting of various critical incidents. The survey is answered by both teachers and principals. Feedback takes place at governing body level when researchers and school leaders meet. The study is carried out in collaboration with Professor Ulf Blossing from the University of Gothenburg.
