The future for a building and construction engineer holds many exiting challenges. How shall we design and construct our buildings to make them environmentally sound, energy efficient and economical to construct and to live in. Does it sound like a challenge? The first four semesters provide broad insight into all aspects of the construction industry where environmental issues are integrated. You will be introduced to building technology, mechanical engineering and design, building and urban planning, and get basic knowledge in mathematics, energy and environmental technology. During the second year you perform a project work where you will perform at project from urban planning, building design to calculation of costs with computer aid in a BIM-process. During semester four to six you have a possibility to a of choice of courses. You are also expected to complete a project in sustainable building technology, to study the process of construction management further, and take classes in business administration. A degree project (individual or group) in cooperation with a company concludes the last semester.Form of Instruction
Instruction is mainly in the form of lectures, tutorials, laborations and project work. Group projects is common and may require presence outside scheduled hours. There are compulsory course elements, such as laborations, oral presentations and seminars. Examination usually takes place throughout the course module.Examination
Examination normally takes place in different forms such as projects, hand-ins, oral presentation and/or written reports, and written exams. In most courses examination is made throughout the course, instead of a final examination at the end.Professional Contact
Professional contact is made through study visits, guest lecturers and project work. You can choose to take a practical training course which includes 8 weeks of internship at a company within the building and construction business.Course of study

Employment Market
Construction engineers work in several areas, both in the public and the private sector. Your employer may be a construction or a consultant firm, a municipality, or a civil service department. There are also many other companies connected to the construction industry, for instance, materials manufacturers, insurance companies, and architectural firms. You may work as a constructor, production planner, work foreman, construction site manager, controller, quality developer, or project manager of housing areas, industrial buildings or sport arenas. Renovations, conversions, property management, architectural conservation and restoration are other areas in which construction engineers are needed. In Sweden, and internationally, there is a need for environmentally aware construction engineers.Degree
