2024-12-04 Cyber resilience: Study visit from south-east Finland
The project team for A Cyber Resilient Kymenlaakso from South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Kaakkois-Suomen ammattikorkeakoulu – Xamk.fi) visited INCREDILAB, the Pilot study on computer games, and RiskLab. Marie Skavø-Sinisalo and her colleagues explained the interest in having micro companies becoming cyber secure. This kind of firms are often part of value chains essential for the society but are easily forgotten as they appear far down the value chains. KAU researchers from Information Systems and Political Science told about preparedness research and games as a form of communication, and also demonstrated the RiskLab facilities.

Postdoc Jamilya Nurgazina from St. Pölten Applied University visits Information Systems during two weeks to teach Blockchain in Food Supply Chains by traditional lecture and by a role-playing game where campus students in ISGB25 and ISGA97 had a chance to trial optimising eceonomy and sustainability. Moreover, the master's students in ISAD22 were provide an interesting lecture on the design of pedagogical games and research on the effects of this pedagogical method, and also om System Dynamics Modelling.
2024-11-08 Legal Tech: Successful completion of new joint master course(s)
Information System professor John Sören Pettersson and associate prof. Cyril Holm from the Law department at ý Business School have coordinated three courses focusing on changes in legal tech landscape. To meet the requirements for advanced studies, separate courses have been defined for the IS and Law students but all classes, workshops and mentoring have been given interdisciplinary. Two 7.5 credit IS courses focusing on Rules-as-Code and generative AI, respectively, have run in parallel and run jointly with (different parts of) a 15 credit Law course, “Legal Tech, AI, and Rules-as-Code”. The goal for this 9-month pilot study is to map how educational organisations in our region — not the least various disciplines within ý itself — can be engaged in development of education and research that strengthens our region’s competence and competitiveness within digital games development and related areas. The prestudy directive highlights involving the scientific and artistic competence at the regional university as this resource has not significantly contributed to the regional game development ecology so far. Master's student Linus Geewe defended today his thesis . The essay is the result of an ongoing collaboration between Information Systems and Mathematics at ý where we develop technical aids for teaching mathematics among undergraduate students. There are two key factors here: the involvement of master's students in interdisciplinary projects and the use of virtualisation techniques - virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, extended reality - for interactive visualisations where even abstract concepts become tangible by being manipulable. Yet a new book on ICT4D - that is, information and communication technology for international development. Together with old friends from previous M4D conferences, John Sören Pettersson at the Information SYstems dept at ý Business School has edited a collection of papers about "the extent to which conventional ICT theories can be rigid in nature, often unable to handle the constant advances in technology, and technology adoption, implementation, usage, and disposal, not to mention different needs and cost availability in developing countries. The authors go on to show how new and revised models, tested in many societies in developing countries, can solve this mismatch." .

Mobile for Development - M4D - has been running as a conference series since 2008, always producing conference proceeding, but sometimes also "selected papers" volumes. From the last conference in Rwanda 2022, some presentations have been expanded and fit into the volume , together with some new contributions on Radio vs FM Towers and on the Centre of Excellence of IoT at University of Rwanda, as well as an Afterword by Sana Rouis Skandrani reflecting on North Africa's role in the IT development in Africa, and a Forword by volume editors Richard Musabe (Univ. of Rwanda) and John Sören Pettersson (KAU). The methodologies we employ to bridge the gap between theoretical insights and practical solutions are paramount in technology and system development. The workshop "Mapping HCI Methodologies to the DSR Design Phase" aims to decode the Design Science Research (DSR) process, focusing on its design phase through the lens of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) methodologies such as iterative design and co-design. Half-pace courses for IT consultants. English for IT Professionals, 7,5hp, we will run jointly with the English department. The course Rules-as-Code Applications, 7,5hp, treats the ambition in public administration to automate the handling of routine matters. The course covers how rules are written in machine-readable form so that the reinterpretation to programming code for computers will not entail reinterpretation of the intentions behind the rules. AI Applications in Law, 7,5hp, is about Legal Tech in general and the accelererated digital transformation of legal work processes brought by AI. Farzaneh co-chaired the 2023 European Symposium on Usable Security
The European Symposium on Usable Security (EuroUSEC) will be held at ý on September 30 & October 1, 2024. Farzaneh Karegar is the program chair of EuroUSEC 2024 and co-chair of held in October in Copenhagen. EuroUSEC is a European forum for research and discussion on human factors in security and privacy. It aims to bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners. Participants are researchers, practitioners, and students from differentdomains including, but not limited to, HCI, computer science, engineering, psychology, social sciences, and economics. In 2023, the event hosted more than 40 participants from different parts of the world including Europe, Canada, and Japan.

The ISE courses (Improving value creation through service education) provides competence development for professionals. Linda Bergkvist, responsible for the course in Digitisation and digital transformation in organisations, explains that a core idea is knowledge and experience exchange between participants, for example by discussion seminars where the content of the seminars are created partly by the participants when they apply theoretical concepts and models on their own experience. Norwegian local news site checked stakeholder's knowledge of Swedish crisis terms
The Norwegian-Swedish phrase book for terminology to use in crisis exercises has got a interactive introduction on a web page at criseit.org. News sites serving two Norwegian municipalities used this and the phrasebook to test some mayors and rescue officers on their ability to interpret the 10 Swedish terms. Good scores it turned out, but the interviewed people praised the utility of such a phrasebook. (In Norwedish: see .)

ý Business School has an within digital transformation. Of special weight for this position is successful research within digital transformation with interorganisational perspectives or sustainability perspectives. We furthermore want the applicants to have a strong background in development of undergrad and master education. A professor must be able to take on the role of subject coordinator and thus guide the subject group in educational matters as well as in research.
Moreover, we are looking for a research student within the area of agile digital transformation. Bridget Kane attend the NORDeHEALTH project meeting in Espoo, Finland. Bridget is leading a Work Package that looks at oncology patient notes made by multidisciplinary teams, and patient involvement in thedecisions ontheir care. NORDeHEALTH is a NordForsk funded project with collaborators in Norway, Finland Sweden and Estonia, and aims to identify the challenges and opportunities in digitization of health services, especially when national portals are implemented to give patients online access to their Electronic Health Records and other Personal eHealth Services (PeHS) for increasing self-management and transparency in healthcare.

Elin Nilsson, who this year have worked half-time at a temporary position is now employed as junior lecturer in Information Systems. Best Reviewer at ACIS 2022 from Information Systems in ý
Odd Fredriksson from KAU Business School won a Best Reviewer Award at the Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) 2022, University of Melbourne in Melbourne, 4-7 December. More than 450 reviews had been submitted, of which Odd contributed two, but for this award it is the quality, not the quantity, that counts. Another Best Reviewer recognition that went to our group was awarded Prof. Pettersson at the admittedly much smaller AIS special interest group Education (ICISER 2022) 11 December in Copenhagen.

With the COVID-19 restrictions now removed, it was a crowded lecture hall that saw Carin Lindskog defend her doctoral thesis in Information Systems, Tensions experienced and balancing strategies used in Agile Software Development environments, on Friday the 2nd of December. Wednesday 10:30-11:00 Daniel Jefimov via videoconf from Estonia: “I did my thesis at Estonian Academy of Security Science as design-based research in which I made online training of railway accident. I work at Estonian Rescue board as rescue team leader of Sillamäe city rescue team (managing level: operational/bronze). In the thesis I transferred a railway accident live simulation to virtual world for online training.” At the seminar Jefimov demonstrates his web-based training material and explains his research behind it. TWO NEW DOCTORS AT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Ala Sarah Alaqra defended a dissertation in Computer Science on human factors within privacy-enhancing technologies at the end of January, and a few days later Ala began a new employment in Information Systems at the ý Business School.
Already last summer Sana Rouis Skandrani was employed at KAU. Sana has a PhD from Luleå Technical University in Electronic Business with dissertation on the impact of Facebook usage on students' study results. At ý she develops a course in Business Simulation and Analytics and teaches within many courses.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS RESEARCHERS AIM TO GUIDE HOSPITAL VISITORS
Is an app the right way to guide visitors to the central Hospital in ý? A new research study will try to provide an answer to that question. The study is a breakthrough for research in real location within DigitalWell. AGREEMENT SIGNED WITH GITHUB
ý Business School has signed a partnership agreement with Github – an online Community and subsidiary of Microsoft – to offer students and teaching staff the opportunity to cooperate and contribute to different IT projects without cost. Revision control of source code is very important in all development and management of systems. GIT is a system for revision control developed by the Linux creator Linus Torvalds.

SIMULATION MODELS FOR CASCADING EFFECTS IN CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURES
Visiting researcher Stefan Rass will hold a guest lecture at Information Systems on Wednesday 14th of August at 13.15. Contemporary critical infrastructures exhibit a strong interdependency, with many known direct implications of impacts (such as by blackouts), but also with a considerable number of indirect implications and side-effects to consider in the overall picture.

NATIONAL MEETING IN KARLSTAD ON DEVELOPMENT OF ONLINE MEDICAL RECORDS AND E-HEALTH SERVICES
The Swedish DOME research consortium held a meeting in ý June 4-5, 2019, where Information System’s Bridget Kane, ý Business School, acted as host. The purpose of the DOME consortium is to build knowledge about the implementation and use of eHealth services. Its research is based on studies of e-health projects, in particular in cooperation with the parties involved in the establishment of Online Patient Records in Sweden (“Journalen”).

NETWORK MEETING AND COURSE IN CO-PRODUCTION OF KNOWLEDGE: ON DIGITIZATION, VALUE AND BUSINESS PROCESSES
